How Long Does the Government Have to Pay me for Taking my Property?

Hello, my name is Raymer Maguire, I’m a 30 year eminent domain practitioner that limits his practice to representing property owners and business owners. The question at hand is, how long does the government have to pay you for taking your property? Well, that is a broader question than it appears. From the time that the government files suit against you, you’re gonna have about 90 days for an Order of Taking and then they’ll be required to deposit the Good Faith deposit about 30 days later, sometimes less. So that’s one limit. From the time you sign a pre-suit settlement agreement, they have to wait about 30 days before closing with you. So it’s gonna vary depending on the circumstances. But once they get serious about taking the property, it does roll along fairly quickly. Calling my office for a more detailed answer to your particular circumstances would be appropriate on this one.
