US 27 to CR 532 I-4 Express Segment 5

Polk County

The Florida Department of Transportation ("FDOT") is currently finishing a Project Development and Reevaluation Study ("PD&E") for I-4 Express Segment 5. The project will take place in Polk County from US 27 to West of County Road 532 with a length of 4.5 miles. The project will widen I-4 to ten lanes by improving the three General Use lanes and adding two Express lanes in each direction. It will also add an interchange and improve pedestrian and bicycle facilities. Right-of-Way is budgeted for $47 million. Construction is currently unfunded and will begin at a date with is TBD. I-4 @ SR 33 Interchange Modification

US 27 from Highlands County Line to North of SR 60

District One of the Florida Department of Transportation ("FDOT") is conducting a Project Development and Environment Study (“PD&E”) for a potential 20 mile widening of US 27 project from the Highlands County line to the north of SR 60 in Polk County. FDOT intends to examine the need for an expansion from four lanes to six to improve traffic flow. Project Cancellation: Central Polk Parkway from US 17 to Logistics Parkway

Polk County

The Florida Department of Transportation ("FDOT") District One Secretary Billy L. Hathaway announced cancellation of all future work on the Central Polk Parkway projects. Previously, a six-lane, highway alignment was proposed with the goal of adding additional north and south routes to the Central Polk roadways. FDOT cited insufficient funds to advance the planned design projects. Current traffic demands also did not warrant project advancement. Any remaining project funds will be applied to various other FDOT projects.
